MATT SCHICKER has shepherded more than 40 musicals and plays since 2002 as producer and consultant, from developmental readings and showcase presentations to full productions. As stage projects consultant, his clients are writers and writing teams, theaters, and independent producers.
Matt was co-producer of the original musical Yank!, which had a hit run Off-Broadway in winter/spring of 2010 at The York Theatre Company, and was nominated for seven 2010 Drama Desk Awards, two 2010 Outer Critics Circle Awards, and two 2010 Lucille Lortel Awards, and won a 2010 Independent Theatre Bloggers Award for “Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical”. Matt also collaborated as a producer on Yank!‘s 2011 workshop with the Roundabout Theatre Company, and produced The Old Globe Theatre’s 2011 workshop of the show (directed by David Cromer). He also produced the award-winning 2007 production of Yank! at Brooklyn’s The Gallery Players and was consulting producer for the 2008 production at Diversionary Theatre in San Diego. As Producer for East of Doheny Productions, Matt collaborated with Goodspeed Musicals on the August 2010 production of the new musical Radio Girl with a score by Henry Krieger and Susan Birkenhead, directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli, and a cast led by Orson Bean, Lee Meriwether, Meredith Patterson, and John Bolton. Matt produced 9 plays and musicals in 2009-2010 as Producing Artistic Director of Playhouse on the Green (CT), including a developmental production of Sister Robert Anne’s Cabaret Class written and directed by Dan Goggin (Nunsense). He was Membership Director of National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) from 2005 to 2008, where he created relationships with more than 150 regional and not-for-profit theaters, as well as commercial producers and writers. Prior positions include Marketing/Press Director for The Pearl Theatre Company (Off-Broadway) from 2004-2005, Executive Director/President, Vice President, and Producer for The Gallery Players Theater from 2003-2008, and on the staff of The Juilliard School from 1999-2004.
Currently, Matt is Director of Red Mountain Theatre Company’s Human Rights New Works Festival (Birmingham, AL), New Works Director for Ogunquit Playhouse (Maine) and a board member of the Michael Butler HAIR Tribes Foundation and New York Theatre Barn http://www.nytheatrebarn.org, and a member of National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT).
